Steffi is an indie rock punk band that was first formed in 2006 Izmir, Turkey, by musician Umut Altun while studying the cello at 9 Eylul Fine Arts University. Upon recording their first demos, the band began to attract attention in the local Izmir punk rock scene.Soon they started booking their first gigs at local bars and concert halls. Though their popularity was on the rise, Umut’s relocation to Istanbul changed the fate of the band, leading them to break-up. In 2015, upon meeting Asli Akinci, vocalist and founder of Istanbul’s first known punk rock group Tampon, Umut was integrated into the band, becoming Tampon’s official guitarist, joining them on tour throughout the country. In 2016, with the release of “Planet Tampon” LP album and the help of his band-mate Asli Akinci, Umut Altun was inspired to return to song-writing, this time taking a more melodic approach to his music. Thus, in 2018, the band Steffi was officially revived as an Istanbul based indie rock band, with Umut Altun on vocals and guitar, Asli Akinci on bass guitar, Berk Tekelioglu on drums, Viron Kapudag on guitar, and Yigitcan Altun on keyboard. In 2019, Steffi signed with Turkey’s leading record company, Pasaj Muzik / Garaj Muzik, preparing to release their first EP consisting of 4 songs, “Yildizlara 5 Kala” due in 2020. With two pre-release concerts in Istanbul’s music scene Kadikoy, Steffi has created the buzz for a promise of a new sound.
